MEMBERS of an Elgin-based choir have stepped up to a charity challenge, raising £1500 for Cancer Research UK.
Although Cantare Ladies Choir have been unable to gather and sing through the pandemic, they have been doing what they can to support hard-pressed local and national charities.
In recent months they have contributed to Moray Food Plus and the Northern Scot Toy Appeal.
Throughout March, several members took part in Cancer Research UK's Walk All Over Cancer fundraiser, in which challengers attempted to walk 10,000 steps each day of the month.
The women notched up 2,736,477 steps between them through their daily local walks.
Chairperson Anne Brown said: "The members took various local country walks, out at Spey Bay, out at Logie and Forres and such like, for the challenge.
"We might not be singing or able to meet up – but we're still active."
Cantare has around 100 members, and before the pandemic held regular meet-ups at Greenwards Primary School, on Elgin's Edgar Road.
In the 17 years the choir has been running, its members have raised more than £100,000 for charities.
In pandemic-free times, the choir stages two concerts a year, in spring and at Christmas, at Elgin Town Hall.
