A MAN who pleaded guilty to defrauding seven people out of £53,500 at a Moray caravan park has been granted more time to repay his victims.

Neale Rothera was expected to be sentenced in Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday, having admitted on June 28 to fraudulently collecting the money at Lossiemouth’s Silver Sands Caravan Park between May 5 and July 2, 2009.

However, defence advocate Shahid Latif successfully argued that his client’s case again be deferred until November 3 to give him more time to access funds.

Mr Latif said Rothera had already sourced £5,000, and that he was looking to cash in a pension policy that would recoup another £21,000. Mr Latif said that process should be completed in four weeks.

Rothera (36) had been working as a self-employed consultant sales manager with Green Parcs Ltd, of Beckville House, London Road, Leicestershire, when he defrauded the four women and three men at Silver Sands.

He told them that he was the owner of a number of caravans and that he was entitled to sell them, even though he knew they were owned by other people.

Rothera, of 5 Orchard Way, Wymeswold, Leicestershire, then induced his victims to make payments to him for the purpose of buying the caravans, ultimately obtaining £53,500 through fraud.
