A trip to the Belladrum music festival proved costly for an offshore electrician from Elgin.

Ross Hudson was stopped by police who were carrying out random checks just after 9am on July 30 as festival-goers left the event.

Fiscal depute Adele Gray told Inverness Sheriff Court: "They could smell alcohol on his breath and he gave a reading of 59mcgs when the legal limit is 22mcgs."

Hudson, of Gordon Street, New Elgin, admitted drink driving.

He was fined £840 and banned from the roads for a year.

Sheriff Gary Aitken suggested the 32-year-old should have bought a self-testing kit to see if it was safe for him to be setting off in his car

The sheriff added: "This was a very silly thing to do. You were very clearly over the limit."
