ORGANISERS of a concert featuring the famous Fron Male Voice Choir have chosen two local charities to benefit from the event.

This Sunday at 7.30pm, Moray ladies choir Cantare will step on to the stage at Elgin Town Hall with the award-winning visiting Welsh group.

The Fron choir has won dozens of awards and are behind the Voices of Valley series of five albums, topping the classical charts and achieving worldwide sales of over 2 million to date.

Cantare musical director Jane Ferguson, who founded the 115-strong ladies choir in Elgin 15 years ago, said members were in final rehearsals for Sunday's event, which will include support from other local musicians.

Now, the charities to benefit have been named as the Northern Scot Christmas Toy and Food Appeal and Moray School Bank.

The School Bank offers new school uniform and warm winter clothing to children living in financial hardship across Moray, while The Scot's annual Christmas Appeal – run in partnership with the local authority – ensures a little festive cheer is spread to those most in need across the Moray area.

For the last 37 years, kind-hearted locals have show their generosity by giving food, gifts and donations, which are then distributed to those in need to help make Christmas a happier time.

This year's appeal will officially launch next week and Scot joint content editor Chris Saunderson thanked Cantare for once again showing support for the important initiative.

In addition, the two causes will also receive proceeds from Cantare's newly organised Christmas Fair, which will take place in the Williamson Hall, on Elgin's Duff Avenue, on November 30 from 10am-4pm.

The choir decided to hold their own Christmas Fair when the one to be held at the Glen Moray Distillery had to be cancelled.

There will be a wide selection of craft stalls run by charities and local crafts people and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

As Cantare are organising the Christmas Fair, there will also be two carol singing sessions in the adjacent St Columba's Church, running at 11.30am and 3pm.

A few stalls remain available for the fair and you can email cantareladieschoirelgin@gmail.com for details. Meanwhile, tickets for this weekend's performance are online via the Elgin Town Hall website or from Cathedral Windows, on Elgin's High Street.
