Charity CEO wins prestigious honour

A CHARITY which helps people across Moray and the north east is celebrating after its chief executive was honoured for her work.

AVENUE'S Elizabeth Wallace was made an MBE in the New Year's Honours list for her services to counselling, family mediation and psychological support.

The organisation, which has an office in Elgin as well as in Aberdeen and Peterhead, provides a range of counselling, therapy, mediation, child contact and family support services to individuals, couples, families, and children.

Dr Ian Clark, the charity's chairman, said: "Mrs Wallace has been the leading figure in the development of this service and the principal officer responsible for its delivery for the past 28 years and has applied a high level of commitment, energy and entrepreneurship to these endeavours.

"She began her career training as a volunteer family mediator has built up the capacity of the agency from small beginnings to the substantial multifunctional helping resource it is now with centres in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

"I know that our large team of employees, and practitioners will be pleased to hear of the award which is well deserved."

Speaking of the honour, Mrs Wallace said: "This highlights the commitment of everyone involved in AVENUE past and present, and I want to thank all our dedicated staff and practitioners who this award really honours."

In 2008, two charities Family Mediation Grampian and Couple Counselling Grampian merged to become Counselling and Family Mediation Grampian.

The organisation subsequently rebranded to AVENUE – www.avenue-info.com – in July 2011.
