OLDER people in Elgin tried their hand at pencil drawing for the first time this week.

Local artist Donald Jack led an introduction to drawing at Hanover Housing's Linkwood View sheltered housing complex, where participants learnt some basic techniques.

It is believed drawing can help with concentration and fine co-ordination in people of all ages, but especially in older people.

The free class was part of First Time for Everything, a programme by Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) and Prudential to give older people an opportunity to try something new for free in their local community.

.

Ian Menzies, RVS activity co-ordinator for Moray, said: "It’s been wonderful to see so many local people enjoying our First Time for Everything activities. It’s never too late to try something for the first time."

Brian Dyke, from Elgin, thoroughly enjoyed his first ever drawing class. He said: "It really got my brain thinking in different ways."

The programme's next event in Moray will be a sound/gong bath on July 10, at 2pm, at Linkwood View.
