Forres Victoria Indoor Bowling Club raises £1100 for Quarriers charity in memory of late member Caitlin Dustan
A LOCAL sports club presented £1100 to a carer support service raised via its tournament in memory of a late member.
Forres Victoria Indoor Bowling Club’s open pairs competition attracted 32 entries, many of whom knew Caitlin Dustan - the Quarriers charity supported the teenager before her death following a sudden unexpected death in epilepsy in 2022.
Club spokesman Derek Crosby confirmed fellow player Henry Davidson - Caitlin’s grandfather - and family provided the Caitlin Dustan Shield as a trophy for the event.
He added: “The competition went well thanks to splendid organisation and running, great camaraderie and spirit amongst the competitors, super catering by members and a wonderful raffle with plenty of donations, particularly from the Dustan and Davidson families.”
Norma Crawford is the project manager of the Quarriers Epilepsy Community Outreach Service.
She said: “Caitlin because she was a kind and caring young person who always considered the needs of others. She was growing into a lovely young woman with plans for her future and was a real asset to her community, her peers and to everyone who knew her. “We are grateful and overwhelmed to accept the generous donation from Victoria Indoor Bowling Club and most of all for raising awareness of epilepsy as a life changing condition.”
The club’s final night of bowling of the season will be at Edinkillie Community Hall on April 15. There will then be a prize-giving ceremony at the Mosset Tavern on April 18 followed by an AGM at the clubhouse on St Catherine’s Road on April 24.
“We are fast approaching the end of our winter season,” said Derek. “Our usual venue at Forres Academy was unavailable because of RAAC problems so we’ve been bowling at Forres House and Edinkillie.”
