HM Coastguard confirm one person rescued off Moray coast after ship caught fire

HM Coastguard have confirmed that a person was rescued off the Moray coast earlier this week after a ship caught fire.

The emergency service responded to reports of a boat on fire on April 10 just after 5pm.

Lifeboats from Buckie and Invergordon RNLI were mobilised and coastguard teams were also alerted.

The vessel sank but the person onboard was rescued.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard responded to reports of a vessel fire in the Cromarty Firth on April 10, around 10 nautical miles west of Burghead.

“Alerted at around 5.15pm, lifeboats from Buckie and Invergordon RNLI were sent to the scene. Buckie and Portsoy Coastguard Rescue Teams were alerted.

“The one person onboard was recovered by another vessel in the area and passed safe and well to the Buckie lifeboat to be taken to land. The vessel on fire later sank.”
