A PUBLIC meeting is being held by residents determined to resurrect a highlight of their local community's calendar.

New Elgin locals want to bring back the traditional Summer Fete which, in years gone by, drew families from all across Moray for a great day out.

Now a public meeting has been set for 7pm on Thursday, November 14 at New Elgin and Ashgrove Hall and members of the community and local businesses are being asked to get behind the event's revival.

A small group of local residents, community group representatives and professionals working in the area have formed the New Elgin East Community Action Plan Working Group, which will host the initial meeting.

The group launched the New Elgin East Community Plan at a Family Fun Day, held in the New Elgin and Ashgrove Hall in September, which attracted more than 500 people.

It details a number of initiatives identified by residents that could improve the lives of the people who live and work in the New Elgin area, with the Fete considered a way to increase community spirit and a sense of togetherness.

A spokesperson for the group said: “So many residents have spoken fondly of the New Elgin Summer Fete which held a special place in their hearts for many years. We’d love to see it return and be the calendar event of the year.

"We’re keen to hear from residents who may have photos and memories of the original fete as well as young people in the area about what they would like to see. This really will be an event for everyone."

Everyone is welcome along to next Thursday's gathering. Anyone who can't make the event, but who is interested in being involved can email newelgincommunity@gmail.com.
