A community larder has been created in Mosstodloch to provide meals for people from the surrounding area.

.

The larder, which will operate in the village scout hall, will allow people to collect food for themselves or donate food and other articles for distribution to others.

Food and other essentials will be be delivered direct to people who are shielding or unable to travel.

Open between 11am and 12 30pm every Wednesday and Friday, the larder will serve the needs of the people from Mosstodloch, Garmouth, Kingston, Urquhart and Lhanbryde.

It has been set up by Moray Food Plus with help from volunteers and council staff.

Also lending their support are Innes Community Council, Speymouth Village Hall, Mosstodloch Scouts, Lhanbryde Community Centre, Moray Food Plus and Urquhart Parish Hall.

Jim Mackie from Innes Community Council said: "The Covid pandemic has caused massive disruption for us all, but in particular for the elderly, the infirm and the low income households.

"Unfortunately for some this is the only support they get and the numbers are increasing weekly.

"Donations can be collected locally."

.

The items that would be most appreciated are:

  • Baby items: dried milk, nappies, wipes, snacks, jars of food. (Families can be referred to the Babybank but this is initial help)
  • Tins of meat ( cooked ham, corn beef, tinned pies etc.)
  • Savoury rice/pasta/couscous/ vegetable cooking oil/cooking sauces
  • Jam, diluting juice, flour, plain biscuits ( Rich Tea/Digestives etc) healthy snack bars
  • Toiletries: shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, shower gel, soap
  • Washing powder, washing up liquids. bin liners, cleaning gels
  • Dog and cat food

The above items would supplement the community larder provision which is low in many of them.

There is an arts and crafts table for the children to pick up books, games and materials. All contributions are welcomed but especially coloured pencils and pens, pencils, paint pots, colouring in books, reading books, games and materials for crafts.
