RESIDENTS in New Elgin were given a hands-on insight to the many activities taking place in their community.
The community showcase on June 17 at the New Elgin and Ashgrove Public Hall allowed people the chance to take part in some taster sessions and find out about local groups.
The event was part of the New Elgin East and West Community Plan.
There were social groups, fitness classes, parents groups, and gardening enthusiasts.
The fire brigade were also there, along with Guides and Scouts, Police volunteers and displays from the Army cadets, and sword fencing.
Two new groups started with funding from the community plan – Mums' Days, a relaxed and informal mum and baby group run by fellow mums every second Wednesday from 10am to 12pm and It Takes a Village, a project by Moray School Bank which aims to improve and build community connections across Moray by recruiting new volunteers.
Alongside its school uniform referral programme and other existing services, it is looking at ways of promoting recycling of school uniform and other clothing items to reduce waste and ease financial costs for all families.
