A COMPANY that is working on a trio of construction projects in Moray has donated hundreds of pounds worth of toys to help those in need this Christmas.

Morgan Sindall Construction donated scores of bags filled with toys to the Moray Christmas Toy and Food Appeal, being run by Elgin's St Giles Centre.

The Inverness-based construction company is working on three projects in Moray at present and sets aside funds to help good causes over the festive period.

Morgan Sindall have been involved with works at Poundland in Elgin since June 2022, and are also working at the Copfs Office on South Street and a project at Newton Nursery.

Patrick Johnson, who is the project manager of the Copfs refurbishment, said: "In any community we go into, coming up to Christmastime, we give something back.

"We are giving to a few different charities for children that won't be waking up with any presents on Christmas morning.

"We have three jobs in the area so we decided to help again and give a bit more."

Tony Ross, the foreman of the Poundland project, stays in Elgin and was delighted to support the cause again – having done so back in 2021 when he was Forres Thistle manager.

He said: "Being from the area and knowing that these toys and gifts will go to people from this area hits home a little bit more. It's a great local cause.

"We realise there have been blockages in the street, a little bit of access denied. We realise it's been a nuisance so it's good to give back to the community."

St Giles Centre manager Stephen Young was delighted with the support provided by Morgan Sindall and other local businesses.

He added: "That is nearly 100 presents that Morgan Sindall have donated. If we have to help 1000 people then 100 presents go along way.

"It's phenomenal that these companies involve themselves, as well as the companies that act as collection points."

Presents, suitable for ages 0-22, can be handed in at the St Giles Centre in Elgin and will make their way to a Moray child on Christmas Day. Donations of food are also being accepted.
