Portraits of King Charles and Camilla are set to replace those of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh currently hanging in Moray Council's debating chamber.

Councillors will be expressing their condolences to the royal family at a special meeting this morning following the death of the Queen last Thursday.

A spokesperson said: "New portraits will be hung in the chamber of King Charles and the Queen Consort.

"However official portraits haven’t been released by the palace yet so they won’t be in place during special full council.”

The portraits of the Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh currently on display will go into the council’s archives, along with another one of the Queen that hangs in Elgin registry office.

Council meetings for this week have been cancelled as part of the mourning period.

This includes the education as well as audit and scrutiny committee which were both were originally scheduled for today.

Apart from essential services, the council will close for the Queen’s funeral on Monday.
