AN EMPTY Elgin retail unit is listed among the Covid-19 vaccination locations published by the Scottish Government.

More than 1100 sites across the country will become vaccine hubs, with upwards of 30 in Moray including care homes, GP practices, town halls, Moray Sports Centre, The Legion in Forres and Lossiemouth Baptist Church.

Among the more unusual vaccination sites is the former Topps Tiles shop unit, on Elgin's Edgar Road.

More than 113,000 people had received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination by the end of last week, the government said, as the roll-out continues across Scotland, with the programme for vaccinating care home residents now well over half-way through.

Those in priority lists 1 and 2, including older residents in care homes, their carers, frontline health and care workers and those over the age of 80 – are expected to get their first dose by the end of this month.

It is predicted that by early May everyone over 50 and those with underlying health conditions will have received their first dose – more than 2.5 million people in Scotland. The rest of the population will start receiving their invitations after that.

Chief medical officer Dr Gregor Smith said: "We have over 1100 vaccination sites, including over 750 GP practices, involved in the delivery of this vaccine and a growing core of over 3000 trained vaccinators to deliver the vaccine, including dentists, GPs, pharmacists and optometrists.

"This is the biggest logistical challenge in the history of Scotland’s NHS but there is a huge effort from our health and social care staff right across Scotland to make sure it is a success."

Vaccination locations in Moray will include: Rinnes Medical Group; Fochabers Institute; Glenlivet Village Hall; the Shand Centre, Stephen Hospital, Dufftown; Moray Sports Centre; The Legion, Forres; Burghead Town Hall; Hopeman Hall; Lossiemouth Baptist Church; Keith School; Aberlour Fleming Hospital; Tomintoul; Cullen Practice; Moray Coast Medical Practice, Lossiemouth; Maryhill Group Practice, Elgin; Linkwood Medical Centre, Elgin; Keith Health Centre; Culbin and Varis Medical Practice, Forres; Fochabers Medical Practice; Elgin Community Surgery; Turner Memorial Hospital, Keith; Seafield Hospital, Buckie; Dr Gray's Hospital, Elgin; Rothes Medical Centre; Ardach Health Centre, Buckie; and Topps Tiles, Elgin.
