SUPERHEROES are set to battle it out at sea in the 42nd annual Lossiemouth Raft Race.

The popular seaside event will take place on August 18, with the theme of DC and Marvel Superheroes.

Entries are now being taken for the event, which is organised by RAF Lossiemouth with support from Moray Council.

Flight Lieutenant Ian Smith is heading up this year's organising committee with a band of volunteers from the station.

He said: "2018's Raft Race was incredibly well supported, with £2400 raised for the chosen charities.

"This year we hope to match that and provide a really entertaining day for all the family.

"Our chosen charities for this year are Poppy Scotland, MFR Cash 4 Kids and The Oaks Palliative Day Care Centre; it’s great that this event will support organisations helping local people."

Gates will open to the public from noon on August 18, with the race starting at 2pm.

Both team entrants and anyone interested in a stall at the event can register with the organising team by email on lossieraftrace2019@gmail.com.

Competitors in the race, which is sponsored by home builders Tulloch of Cummingston, battle it out for the coveted toilet seat trophy.

Last year, that was won by the team from The Steamboat Inn with Crest of a Weave, from Johnstons of Elgin, taking second place and the Shiny 2 team from II(AC) Sqn, RAF Lossiemouth, coming third.
