A MORAY schoolboy has chopped off his hair to help bring a smile to a young cancer sufferer, raising more than £800 along the way.

Lhanbryde Primary pupil Finlay Stuart (11) endured the big chop so he could donate his hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Finlay, who had been growing his hair for two-and-a-half years, braved the scissors during a Family Fun Day he organised at Lhanbryde Village Hall to raise money for cancer charities.

As well as inflatables, the event included stalls, attractions, a raffle, food and refreshments.

Wielding the scissors was proud mum Alison, who helped organise the August 17 fundraising event along with family and friends.

She said: "We had a fantastic turn out on the day. We made £580, which will go to both Cancer Research and the Little Princess Trust.

"He also has a JustGiving page and that is sitting at £250."

Finlay, whose hair was more than 10 inches long and sat just above his waist, is now sporting a up-to-date new style and is proud to have raised £830 to date.

Established in 2006, the Little Princess Trust has supplied over 8000 wigs to children and young people and has invested around £5 million into childhood cancer research.

Meanwhile, Cancer Research UK pioneers research to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
