Culinary extravaganza to take place this weekend in Elgin

Are you feeling hungry? Well, you will be this Saturday (August 19), as Elgin BID’s Food and Drink Festival is set to spice up the town centre.

With more than 50 vendors taking part, the event from 10am-5pm is sure to captivate your imagination as well as your tastebuds, celebrating some of the finest cuisine Elgin has to offer.

“The Food and Drink Festival is a celebration of Elgin’s resilience, creativity, and hospitality”, said the manager of Elgin BID, Angela Norrie.

“It showcases the best of what we have to offer, both in terms of culinary delights and the vibrant spirit of our community.”

Throughout the day, culinary enthusiasts will have the opportunity to watch cooking demonstrations, with the featured dishes including tangy buffalo wings, flatbreads paired with homemade salsa and hummus, pancakes and innovative fusion burritos.

The fun continues at 3pm when the Tasty Tipple takes centre stage as Orrin restaurant present cocktail demonstrations, showcasing classics such as the Old Fashioned and the French Martini.

Orrin will also present a selection of beer and spirit businesses accompanied by a DJ who is said to replicate the pulsating energy of MacMoray Festival.

A new and exciting addition to this year’s festivities is the ‘Slices of Beans on Toast” challenge which invites contenders to compete for the title of the fastest eater of this humble dish .

To enter the competition just approach the Elgin BID Stall which is located as the final stall in the row across from Boots. The worthy winner will receive a £40 Elgin Gift Card.

For the little ones, a plethora of family-friendly entertainment awaits at the Commerce Street Kids Zone. Appearances include Bubbles the Clown as well as the Countryside Classroom.

There will also be crafts and colouring activities led by Girlguides Moray.

“This festival is more than just a culinary extravaganza” said Angela, “it’s a platform for forging connections.

“As we gather to savour exquisite dishes we also gather to engage in conversations, to learn from one another, and create lasting memories.

“The festival breathes life into our town, invigorating not only our palates but our local economy. It fosters a sense of pride in the town’s identity and heritage, highlighting the stories and traditions that have shaped Elgin over the years.”
