A YOUNG defendant got caught breaking a court-imposed curfew just over a day after he'd appeared in the dock.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, August 26, police were called to reports of a disturbance in Elgin.

Finding the front door to a property on Kingsmills wide open, the officers went inside.

Amongst those they found within was George Stewart.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that the curfew had been imposed upon the 19-year-old on June 1.

This ordered him to stay indoors between 7pm and 7am at his home in Findhorn court, Elgin

Defence solicitor Matthew O'Neill stated there had been a "misunderstanding" after his client had appeared again in court on the Thursday before the offence occurred.

Mr O'Neill said: "He thought that the curfew order was no more."

After his arrest Stewart spent the rest of Saturday and the whole of Sunday in police custody.

He pleaded guilty to one charge of breaching his curfew.

Sheriff Gordon Lamont reserved judgment, instead ordering Stewart to return to court on December 21 when his behaviour will be accessed.
