Dead whale washed up in Lossie

Sadly, this dead minke whale was discovered yesterday evening.

Measuring about 12ft long, it is believed to be a young whale.

The cause of death is not yet know.

Adult minke can grow to between 22ft and 30ft, which makes them the second smallest species.

They tend to visit the Moray Firth during the summer and autumn.

The relevant authority – the Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme – has been informed.
