A 21-year-old has been warned not to spoil his own future after he punched and bit another man.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that the assault took place in Den Crescent, Keith, on June 17 last year.

A couple of householders heard shouting coming from the street outside at about 10.30pm.

They went outside to investigate and the woman saw her female cousin walking past in tears.

In addition, they also saw Caleb Davidson.

An altercation then took place between Davidson and the male householder.

This saw the man pushed to the ground and punched in the face.

Davidson also bit him on the head.

He was arrested later that night while standing at a bus shelter in Reidhaven Square.

When interviewed by police officers, Davidson claimed: "He came at me first which is why I did what I did."

The court was told that the defendant pleaded guilty to a charge of assault on the morning of his trial.

Defence solicitor Grant Daglish said his client was a first-time offender who had never been to court.

Mr Daglish added that Davidson was due to start a construction course at college soon.

The lawyer said: "He's a man with a definite plan about he wants to do in the future. I'm confident that this will be the first and last time we will see Mr Davidson in this courtroom."

Sheriff David Harvie replied: "It's always good to have a plan but you're going to spoil it for yourself if you behave like this.

"I'm prepared to take this episode as being out of character.

"I wouldn't be doing that if you had any previous record at all."

Davidson, whose address was given as Burns Road, Lhanbryde, was told to return to the same court on September 5 and was ordered to stay out of trouble in the meantime.
