A couple from Forres celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on the first day of this month.

Callum, AKA 'Cally', and Moira Campbell of Pilmuir Road got married at St Laurence Church on December 1, 1962, following a four-year courtship that started with a chance meeting at a local takeaway.

Their son Brian is looking forward to reminiscing at a family get-together on the couple's most special day.

He said: "My mother reliably informs me that her and dad met at a table in Miele's fish and chip shop on Forres High Street!

"They have stayed in the same house on Pilmuir Road for the last 50 years but prior to that, they lived in a couple of different farms in Rafford."

Cally spent the latter half of his working life with McDermotts Ardesier while Moira was a housewife and a shop worker.

"Dad has been happily retired for 20 years," said Brian. "My mum spent a number of years working in the Co-op on Forres High Street."

Moira still enjoys dancing and socialising at Forres Country Music Club, while Cally prefers time pottering about in the shed.

"They are fantastic, helpful and generous parents to me and my brother Craig," said Brian, "as well as grandparents to Jamie, Emma, Melissa, Josh and Archie, and step-grandparents to Grace and Alice."

The family are planning to celebrate over this weekend with a meal out and an open house for friends and extended family to visit to enjoy chat, food and drink.

And the secret to such a successful marriage?

"Mum and dad are still happily married due to being best friends," said Brian. "They know how to compromise ... and dad switches his hearing aid off when it suits him!"
