A Moray motorist has been given his licence back six months early due to a "profound" change in his lifestyle.

Ryan Stewart was arrested in 2020 after the police saw him driving a van which he'd borrowed to help a friend move house.

Having already been disqualified from driving twice during the previous 12 months, he was ultimately handed a three-year ban.

The 29-year-old appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court on Thursday where he successfully applied to have the that ban cut short by six months.

Solicitor David Paterson said his client had put his past behind him, and was now the owner of a roofing business who paid his taxes and employed staff.

Mr Paterson added that not being able to drive was reducing the amount of ready work that could be taken on.

Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov remarked: "It's rare to see such a radical change of character."
