Portknockie and Portgordon were the scenes of the double shout.

A Buckie RNLI spokesman said: "Buckie RNLI lifeboat William Blannin was launched at 11.43am to assist a vessel off Portknockie which had suffered engine failure.

"The crew were quickly on the scene the stricken vessel where they were able to establish a tow and took the vessel into Portknockie Harbour.

"A passing vessel that was on passage to Macduff also turned back to assist until the lifeboat crew arrived.

"The lifeboat was launched again at 8.56pm to aid a vessel off Buckie which had also suffered engine failure and required assistance.

"Upon the lifeboat's arrival, the vessel had managed to re-gain its own power.

"The vessel was en route back to Portgordon Harbour and as it was getting dark it was decided that the lifeboat would escort back to Portgordon."
