Douglas Ross: 'Many will welcome' appointment of David Cameron as Foreign Secretary
MORAY'S Conservative MP Douglas Ross has said that many people will welcome the appointment of David Cameron as Foreign Secretary.
Mr Cameron – who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom between 2010 and 2016 – was given the role after a dramatic reshuffle on Monday.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman was sacked, with James Cleverly moving from Foreign to Home Secretary. This made room for Mr Cameron's appointment.
Douglas Ross, leader of the Conservatives in Scotland, believes this move will be welcomed by many at a difficult period for world politics.
"Ultimately it is the Prime Minister who is responsible for his ministerial team and I wish all of my colleagues well in their new roles," he said.
"At a time when we are seeing huge challenges on the world stage, I am sure many will welcome the appointment of a former Prime Minister to the Foreign Office."
David Cameron is not currently an MP, having been out of politics for seven years. In the aftermath of the appointment, SNP MSP Richard Lochhead said that the Tories have "lost the plot".
"You are responsible for the biggest foreign policy calamity for generations and lose your Prime Minister post as a result and now your are rewarded with the post of….wait for it…. Foreign Secretary!" he posted on Facebook.
