A personal trainer has escaped a driving ban after being caught doing 105mph on the A96.

Krzysztof Mazur was trapped by police close to midnight on December 12 last year as they were carrying out speed checks near the Inverness retail park.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard it took a police car four miles to catch up with Mazur who lives in Culloden.

Solicitor David Patterson said his 28-year-old client, who had no previous convictions, drove to various gyms around the area.

The lawyer added: "He offers no excuse. He’s let himself down."

Sheriff Gary Aitken told the defendant he had come very close to being disqualified, but opted instead to issue him with a £565 fine and place six penalty points on his licence.
