AN ABSEIL from Dufftown Clock Tower has raised almost £4000 for two good Moray causes.

Local charity Outfit Moray teamed up with the Dufftown and District Community Association to run a fundraising abseil from Dufftown’s iconic landmark on August 20.

The event was a huge success, with 35 brave participants from across Moray abseiling from either the clock tower roof or top floor window.

With ages ranging from 12 to 68, it was a day of mixed emotions, from sheer terror to complete elation on completing the abseil – with some even going twice.

The event raised a staggering £3788, which will be split 50/50 between Outfit Moray and the Dufftown and District Community Association.

Outfit Moray’s community and corporate fundraiser, Karen Cox, said: “We are still feeling the impact of the pandemic, with the demand for our services continuing to grow and partners requesting increased support for their young people.

"We want to continue offering affordable outdoor learning and adventure activities but the cost of living crisis is affecting everyone, including small charities like ourselves.

"Our delivery costs are increasing, but we don’t want to increase the price of our activities, which means fundraising to continue subsidising our adventures is even more important but, unfortunately, increasingly difficult.

"The amazing funds raised by these brilliant abseilers will help us to continue supporting young people in Moray, particularly those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged.”

The Dufftown and District Community Association’s community development leader, Viktoria Eriksson, added: “Dufftown and District Community Association is a registered charity that is led, run and supported by residents of Dufftown and District, who are passionate about the long term success of the town and area.

"We want to restore and re-use the clock tower for the benefit of the community and the iconic building offers an exciting opportunity to merge the past with the future and showcase Dufftown.

"Money raised from this abseil will go towards some much-needed smaller essential repairs of the clock tower, to deal with some of the water ingress in the building."
