A GROUP of volunteers have been given the go-ahead to take over Dufftown Community Centre.

.

Moray Council yesterday agreed a community asset transfer of the building on Church Street.

Councillors accepted the recommendation made by its own officers.

A report prepared for the meeting of the Policy and Resources Committee on Tuesday morning has stated: "Dufftown Community Centre’s governance and financial management arrangements are considered to be strong and sustainable.

"Overall, the projected benefits have been demonstrated well and are considered to represent value for money, providing sufficient justification to agree a disposal at less than market value."

Speaking after the meeting, councillor Louise Laing (Speyside Glenlivet / SNP) welcomed the transfer of the building to the community.

She said: "Volunteers run things better. They can also access various streams of funding which the council is unable to."
