A SPORTING volunteer from Elgin has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Tennis Scotland has revealed the shortlist for its 2023 awards, with Teresa Tait – who's a member at Elgin and Rothes tennis clubs – up for the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Teresa has organised a series of events for women and girls at her clubs, in a bid to increase female participation in the sport.

The awards ceremony will be held at Stirling Court Hotel on Friday, March 31, with a crowd in excess of 100 members of the tennis community expected to attend.

Teresa is one of 26 nominees across 10 categories, with the winners earning a place at the LTA British Tennis Awards.

Blane Dodds, Tennis Scotland Chief Executive, said: “It has been a very successful year for tennis in Scotland with record membership numbers and events like the Davis Cup Finals and Billie Jean King Cup Finals being hosted here.

"With record entries across many competitions, tennis is clearly thriving, and we have decided to return to an awards dinner to celebrate, with our award nominees and winners, what has been another fantastic year.

"We are proud to announce the shortlist for 2023 and recognise the individuals that played their part in growing and developing tennis over the last year.

"I would like to congratulate everyone who has been shortlisted and look forward to announcing the winners soon.”

The Tennis Scotland Awards celebrate the success and hard work of individuals, from community clubs all the way to those on the world stage.

The black-tie event will be hosted by special guest and comedian Josh Berry.
