Elgin BID urges people to celebrate hard work of local businesses despite coronavirus

ELGIN Business Improvement District has launched its 2020 awards.

In association with The Northern Scot, the awards will celebrate local businesses and individuals within them.

Coronavirus has obviously changed the business landscape this year, so that may well be reflected in many of the nominations from the public.

There are 10 different award categories and people have until Monday, September 28 to get their nominations in.

The awards are:

  • Retail - all categories.
  • Finance, printing, professional (local businesses).
  • Finance, banking (national chains).
  • Hospitality and tourism.
  • Hair, beauty, fitness, dental and health care.
  • Charity, community, church groups, education, support groups and clubs.
  • David Urquhart Award - for a new business which began trading after August 2016.
  • Ian Widdowson Award - individual customer service award open to all staff.
  • Long established business award - been trading for more than 25 years.
  • Elgin Community Champion - someone who goes above and beyond for Elgin.

Tina Mainland, of Elgin BID, said: "The Elgin BID Business Awards have gone from strength to strength, with the public making thousands of nominations for their favourite businesses and staff members.

"This year has been incredibly difficult for businesses with the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope that the public take the opportunity to celebrate the hard work the businesses have put in and continue to show their support.”
