Four Army Cadets from Elgin have returned home after placing third in a recent military skills competition.

Jay Pybus (16), Florence Wareing (14) and Finlay Stuart (15), who all hold the rank of Cadet Corporal, took part in the annual contest along with Cadet Lance Corporal Kuba Stasiak (14).

The competition at the Barry Buddon Training area near Dundee saw the foursome from Elgin Detachment 1st Battalion The Highlanders take on 13 other teams from across Scotland.

They were put through their paces in a series of tasks that tested everything from their shooting and patrol skills to their knowledge of first aid.

To be part of the team the four cadets had already taken part in two training weekends leading up to the competition – one at Fort George, and the second at the Tain Air Weapons Range near Dornoch.

The Elgin Detachment meet every Wednesday night at the Cadet Centre on Edgar Road from 6.45pm-9.15pm.
