TWO Elgin Cadets have received a national first aid award for their heroic actions during an incident.
Jay Pybus and Duncan Brown were both presented with the Army Cadet Charitable Trust's Praiseworthy First Aid Certificate, after helping a fellow cadet during a recent training event.
The Cadets (both 15), from the 1st Battalion The Highlander’s Elgin Detachment were nominated for the award by their Detachment Commander for their quick thinking in providing First Aid to a fellow cadet suffering from heat exhaustion.
Jay and Duncan jumped into action after finding the unwell Cadet, taking him into their accommodation to bed him down and place wet towels on the Cadet’s forehead along with rehydrating them. The pair then followed up during breaks in their lessons afterwards and visited the trainee to see how they were getting on.
Elgin Detachment Commander Sergeant Major Instructor Graeme Wells said: “Instead of just letting someone else know and get them to deal with the incident, both of them used their initiatives and put their First Aid Training they are taught in the cadets to good use to help a fellow cadet.
"I am extremely proud of them both and thought that their actions were worth a nomination for a First Aid award and glad to see that their actions have been recognised.”
Both Jay and Duncan were presented with their certificates by the Battalion’s Commandant Colonel Mike MacDonald at the Battalion’s Cadet Training Centre in Dingwall.
