ELGIN'S brass band is set to play a concert in the town at the end of the month.

On Friday, September 30, Elgin City Band will play its Around The World concert at the Laichmoray Hotel, with all welcome to attend.

The band, which was formed in 1858 and has 30 members of varying age, is inviting people to come see them in action for only the second time after the pandemic.

"Elgin City Band is one of the oldest brass bands in the country and its members have kept it going through thick and thin," said chairperson Heather Park.

"Now that it is possible to go out and about again, I'm sure many people would like to support the City Band, and what better way to do that than to come along to its concert at the Laichmoray Hotel.

"The music will take everyone on an imaginative, enjoyable, world journey starting and ending in Scotland, in relaxing surroundings."

The Laichmoray concert, which has previously been an annual event, will begin at 7.30pm and go on for a couple of hours, with an interval in the middle. Entry is £5 and the bar will be open.

Elgin City Band's next concert will be its Christmas one at St Giles.

The band always welcomes new members, who can attend weekly rehearsals at 7pm in Bishopmill Primary School sports hall on a Wednesday evening.

"The door is always open to brass players or percussionists," Heather, who plays cornet in the band, said.

"We have members in their teens and in their 80s. It's good for young and old to mix – we're a bit like a big family, really.

"Weekly rehearsals provide stimulation and enjoyment, as well as an escape from everyday life."
