ELGIN City treated residents from seven care homes to a Christmas-themed day out at the club.

The football club's annual Festive Friends project, run in partnership with the SPFL Trust, saw more than 100 attendees enjoy a three-course meal, a Christmas quiz, and karaoke across two days at Borough Briggs.

In attendance were residents from Anderson's, Spynie, Abbeyside, Linkwood View, West Park Court, Hersbruck and Netherport – plus members of the City's Walking Football Group and Toddlers' Group.

Keiran Carty, general manager at Elgin City, said: "We had a fantastic start to our festive community activities on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

"We invited a number of local care homes and sheltered housing areas to Borough Briggs for a well-deserved day out.

"They enjoyed a fantastic Christmas meal along with some festive entertainment."

Both days started with residents enjoying their Christmas meal, cooked by the team from The 1629 in Lossiemouth with food provided by Tesco, before a quiz and karaoke.

Salvation Army volunteers set the venue up and did the waitering, with Nick Hanover hosting both days – including the post-lunch quizzes.

Audrey Gill, care home manager at Anderson's in Elgin, said: "It was a brilliant day out, the meal was brilliant, the entertainment was good and it was a great atmosphere.

"A lot of work was put into the quiz by Nick Hanover and his wife and everybody was made to feel so welcome by the volunteers.

"We had 20 residents attend, including Kenny Duguid – who used to be Elgin City's kitman!

"We really appreciate what Elgin City do for us as a charity."

Emma Robertson, activities coordinator at Spynie Care Home, added: "Our residents really enjoyed it. It was a really nice meal and they enjoyed the quiz.

"After the past couple of years with Covid, it's nice to see things get back to a bit more normality with these events."

In 2020 and 2021, Elgin City visited care homes and sheltered housing accommodation in Elgin and Lossiemouth with hampers for residents.

Keiran Carty thanked a list of local businesses and individuals for helping make the day happen.

"There are many people to thank that I don’t know where to start," he said.

"Firstly, the Salvation Army's Nick Hanover and his family were fantastic in hosting everyone on the day, with some dodgy Karaoke and a quiz.

"We need to thank our caterer David Guidi, who provided his team to make an excellent meal for our guests.

"The team at Maynes Coaches were great along with the local taxi companies in getting our guests to and from their relevant care homes.

"Alison and Paul at Tesco supported the project with all the stock for the meals so a massive thanks to them.

"I also need to mention Grant Event Hire who provided tables and our photographers Bob and Morag. Last but not least my amazing Team of Craigh, Bonnie and Alison for helping make this day possible.

"Hopefully everyone had a great time and we look forward to our second project delivering our hampers closer to Christmas."
