A CLOTHES shop on Elgin High Street is set to close its doors for the final time at the end of this month.

TooCute Childrenswear, located at 25 High Street, has announced that it will be closing on Friday, October 30.

The shop opened on March 9 – before being forced to close two weeks later, until August 3, with the country going into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

No jobs will be lost as a result of the closure, with TooCute's Buckie shop remaining open for business.

Owner Ashleigh Mair said a number of factors caused the closure of the Elgin shop.

"It just didn't work out," she said. "We didn't have enough support behind us and the shop just wasn't busy enough.

"I'm not sure what that is down to. People said the location wasn't great and people were scared to go out during the covid-19 pandemic.

"The roads on the High Street being blocked off didn't help, either.

"But we met a lot of new lovely folk in Elgin. There were folk coming in but not quite enough. I don't blame anybody, it's hard times for everybody and we are grateful for all the support we received."

Ms Mair, who has run the Buckie shop for more than six years, hopes that it can continue its success – and that customers who visited the Elgin shop will continue to do so in Buckie.

"I'm putting down as a really expensive advertising campaign," she joked. "Hopefully now people in Elgin know where we are.

"If I hadn't tried I would have always questioned it – and I still have the shop in Buckie.

"I've been here for six years and this is my priority.

"Buckie has been busier than usual which has been good. We totally appreciate that and that has helped us."
