Annual Jean Ross Memorial Shield darts tournament raises £1200 for British Heart Foundation and Macmillan Nurses, with guest appearance from Bob Anderson
A RETURNING darts tournament has raised £1200 for a pair of charities.
The annual Jean Ross Memorial Shield, which took place in the Ex-Services Club in Elgin, has been running since 2008 – after well-known fundraiser Jean Ross suffered a stroke and died.
It was forced to take a break due to the coronavirus pandemic but returned in triumphant fashion on Sunday, August 28, raising £600 for both Macmillan Nurses and the British Heart Foundation.
There was even a special guest appearance from legendary darts player Bob Anderson, who won the BDO World Championships in 1988.
Jean's daughter Patricia Ross said: "It was a good day. We raised £1200 for two charities that my mum was a big supporter of."
The event was organised by Jean's son, Dougie Ross, who works for event sponsors C+R Taxis.
He said: "My mum raised money for many charities and these were her favourites. They were the closest to her heart.
"Everybody that knew my mum knew how great a person she was. She was a fantastic woman and is very sadly missed."
The charities involved were delighted to receive £600 each.
Joanne Hewitt, store manager at the British Heart Foundation's Elgin store, said: "The money is absolutely fabulous.
"This will do wonders for research into heart disease.
"This event has supported us in the past – Jeannie was a big supporter of the charity."
