TWO schools in Elgin have been affected as the River Lossie burst its banks in several locations this afternoon.
Elgin Academy and Bishopmill Primary School have both been forced to take action due to the River Lossie bursting its banks by Morriston Playing Fields, with the path, part of the field and the pavillion at the playing fields underwater.
Bishopmill Primary School has issued a text to parents and carers, who may need to make alternative arrangements with regard collecting their children from the school.
Elgin Academy has closed its back gate.
Cooper Park has also been hit by flooding, with the river having burst its banks in several locations due to persistent rain causing river levels to rise.
A Moray Council spokesperson said: "As a result of the rising water levels by Morriston Playing Fields, Elgin Academy has closed its back gate and senior members of staff are at entrances and exits.
"Families with children at the Academy have been notified of rising water levels and pupils have been informed not to use the path by Morriston Playing Fields, and to use an alternative route to get home if required."
