A man has been jailed after he was caught with heroin on Elgin High Street.

Police patrolling the town centre on July 28 last year spotted Mark Townsley and another man acting in what they took to be a suspicious manner.

The officers confronted the pair, at which point three foil wraps fell out of Townsley's jacket pocket.

These were later found to contain £90 of heroin.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that the 37-year-old had a number of previous convictions for similar offences.

Townsley's address was given in court papers as North College Street, Elgin.

However he appeared in court via video link from Inverness Prison, where he is currently being housed in relation to a different matter.

Townsend pleaded guilty to a single charge of possession.

He was sentenced to four months in prison.
