A 63-year-old Elgin man who indicated he was going to spit on a police officer has appeared in court.

The offence happened on June 1 last year while James Stephen, of Sandy Road, was being arrested in connection to another matter.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Stephen kicked the officer on the arm, made threats and caused nasal mucus to land on her arm.

Sheriff Gary Aitken was told that the defendant also attempted to hit another officer with mucus.

Stephen, who admitted two assault charges, was placed under the supervision of social workers for the next two years.

He was also ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid community work.
