EFFORTS TO regenerate Elgin town centre will be in focus at a national conference.

David Urquhart (pictured), chairman of Elgin Business Improvement District (BID), will address delegates from across the country.

He is a key speaker at the Scotland's Towns Conference in Dunfermline on Wednesday.

Big strides have been made in Elgin over the last two years to enhance the physical appearance of the town centre and promote a culture of local events to generate footfall.

Mr Urquhart, joint managing director of wine, spirits and whisky firm Gordon and MacPhail, will outline some of the key achievements of the group.

And articles featured by 'The Northern Scot' on Elgin BID will form part of his presentation to the conference.

The conference will be chaired by Ross Martin, director of the Centre for Scottish Public Policy.

The main speakers include Aileen Campbell MSP, the minister for local government and planning; George Kerevan, journalist, broadcaster and TV producer and Arthur Potts, co-founder of 'The People's Supermarket London' in Channel 4, which looks at keeping supply and demand as local as possible.

Heather Fargo, the former mayor of Sacramento, California, is also a keynote speaker at the conference.
