Saturday's run director Karen Norvell said: "It's a tremendous weekly event, completely inclusive and free and it was great to have a record turnout for the Road Runners takeover.

"All parkrun events are run by volunteers and we are delighted to welcome new runners, walkers and volunteers every Saturday morning at Cooper Park."

All details for parkrun events can be found at www.parkrun.org.uk.

Moray Road Runners chair Gareth Jenkins, who instigated Elgin parkrun, said "When I was going through the application process to get the Elgin parkrun established over four years ago I envisaged 50-75 people attending each week.

"To see 262 participants today was beyond my wildest expectations and it's testament to the drive and enthusiasm of all the volunteers involved in this fantastic community-led event.

"I'm delighted that Moray Road Runners had the opportunity to provide all the volunteers today – many regularly volunteer already – and I hope others will be inspired to support this and other events locally.

"With the Northern Scot 10k series fast approaching, including our own Miltonduff 10k, as well as many other races across Moray, it would be great to see people using parkrun as the catalyst to join their local club and improve their running."
