Building work outside the Poundland store on Elgin's High Street looks set to continue for up to another 18 months.

Moray Council has issued a public notice stating that North Street could remain shut to traffic until July 2024.

By that date the ongoing restrictions forcing vehicles up Batchen Street will have been in place for more than six years

Previously, over the course of many years, water had been seeping in through the roof of the Victorian-era building.

This lead to fears that parts of it might collapse.

Poundland, which used to lease the property, bought it for a nominal sum in 2019.

It became the first property the company has owned during its 30 years of trading.

The renovation work was hampered by a deliberately started fire in August.

When it is finally finished the building will contain flats as well as a retail area.
