AN Elgin pub has announced the death of its doorman who will be "sorely missed".

Sam Beaven, who attended Forres Academy, died on Friday night. No cause of death has been provided.

Writing on Facebook, Foggies said: "It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our doorman Sam Beaven.

"Sam helped us out regularly on our busy Saturday nights. A real individual that always had time for our customers and staff no matter how busy it was, loved by all our team and he will be sorely missed. Definitely one of the good guys.

"Our thoughts go out to his mum, his family and all at Moray security at this sad time. Fly High, Sam."

A Just Giving appeal has been launched by Rhys Lloyd who, on his own Facebook page, pays tribute to Sam.

"Sam Beaven was a truly incredible man and would have done anything to help anyone," he said.

"Taken too soon from us all. Our deepest thoughts are with his family through this terrible time and many friends wish to show their love and support."

Mr Lloyd writes on the JustGiving page: "Sam was an incredible friend and colleague to many of us and his approachable, exciting personality has truly left a mark on our lives and will be greatly missed.

"The loss of a family member is the hardest thing to deal with and I wish to help in any form possible to ease the financial costs that may arise.

"Sam's amazing legacy will never be replaced but I hope we can all help and show how many hearts this truly amazing lad touched in his time with us all."

The online appeal has a target of £3000 and is already sitting at £1870.

Others who knew Sam have also been paying tribute online.

Michael Mulligan said: "Gutted to hear this. Sam was honestly the most laidback nicest bouncer you would ever meet. My condolences to the family."

And Zoe Louise Ashford said: "So sad he was a lovely guy, always had a smile on his face."
