FAMILIES in Elgin used today's sub-zero temperatures and a light coating of snow as a chance to escape lockdown life and safely enjoy the outdoors.

Youngsters were out sledging at Cooper Park, while people enjoyed their now-regular daily walks.

Temperatures reached -7 degrees celcius overnight in Elgin, with other areas of Moray experiencing temperatures as low as -16 degrees celcius.

This was followed by a light snow this morning, which made perfect conditions for sledging – and left many of the town's landmarks with a white shine.
