The fundraiser, which will begin at 2pm this Saturday (March 25) at Lossiemouth Community Pool, will help to raise awareness and much needed money to continue the fight against Polio.

Rotary International have been working with the End Polio Now campaign for more than 25 years and are on a mission to ensure every child across the globe can be inoculated, with the ultimate aim to have the disease eradicated.

The campaign is led by the World Health Organisation and Rotary have received amazing support from the Bill Gates Foundation. For every $1 raised by Rotary, the Bill Gates Foundation adds a further $2 which then provides 3 vaccines.

The fundraising event on Saturday consists of a sponsored swim for up to an hour in the Lossiemouth Pool and people can take part individually or as part of a team. The group want to encourage people of all ages and abilities to join the swimarathon and to highlight the global campaign to attempt to successfully eradicate Polio.

Rotary Elgin President Martin Birse said: "We’re delighted to arrange this fun event and would encourage swimmers of all ages and abilities to take part.

"Sponsorship can be either over the hour or by number of lengths swum - all such income, large or small, will assist the Charity. The event is not about winning but taking part and raising as much money as possible.”

Entry costs £10 per person and £5 for under 12’s, and in addition to the entry fee, swimmers are encouraged to raise additional funds through sponsorship.

Entry Forms and general Terms and Conditions are available from the Rotary Elgin website: www.elgin.rotary1010.org
