Patrick Stewart admitted to calling police officers 'paedos' as well as assaulting one at Elgin Police Station on March 19 this year.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that officers arrested the 23-year-old after a disturbance with another man in the Kingsmills area of Elgin.

He was taken into custody at Elgin Police Station where he is said to have become "obstructive" and "argumentative".

Shortly after, Stewart is said to have wrapped both of his legs around one officer. After they broke free, Stewart kicked out at the man striking him on the leg.

After being charged just after 9pm, he became aggressive once more, calling officers "paedos" before lunging at them.

He then threatened to spit on the officers before being put in a cell.

Defence solicitor David Patterson said that his client had reacted to comments made about his son during the disturbance that led to his arrest.

He said: "A number of comments were made about his son by the man involved in the disturbance.

"He tried to keep his cool but unfortunately he did eventually lose that cool.

"There was also anger because he felt that the wrong man was being arrested."

Mr Patterson said that his client had not "gone out of his way to cause harm" and that he was simply "impulsive".

He added that he was "remorseful" and had accepted that he should not have conducted himself in that way.

Stewart also admitted to committing an assault at the Victoria Bar on February 8 this year.

The court heard that Stewart was involved in a confrontation with a man after a game of pool at the bar on Elgin High Street.

After things got heated, Stewart struck the man on the left side of his head leaving him with a cut on his face.

Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov sentenced Stewart, who has been in custody since March 20, to 10 months in prison.
