AN ELGIN singer’s solo career has taken off after his debut single rocketed to number three on iTunes' rock chart.

Jay Taulier, guitarist in Elgin band The Acrylics, released his cover of Ten Mile Smile, made famous by Stone Roses-themed movie Spike Island, last week.

Jay said it was "magic" to see his first solo release received so well and fly to third in the charts.

Speaking on his success in the charts, Jay said: “It was really magic and I didn’t expect it at all.

“It's good to be able to see my name up there in the chart. I have a lot of songs already written that I am excited to record and release.

"This was a special one as Spike Island is my favourite movie. The Stone Roses, along with Oasis, are one of my favourite bands."

Elgin-based Jay went to Aberdeen to produce the single with Floortom Productions. He played all instruments on the track, with the exception of the drums.
