A FUNDRAISING Elgin gig in celebration of a legendary local music promoter has been called off.

The organisers of "Bonici, The Bands – The Two Red Shoes Story" – a special one-off tribute to Albert Bonici, have announced that the show will not go ahead in summer after being rescheduled due to the pandemic.

The concert was due to be staged at Elgin Town Hall on July 30 next year.

Bonici is known as the man who brought The Beatles to Scotland. He opened his famous Two Red Shoes Ballroom in Elgin in 1960.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: "It is with regret that the committee announce the cancellation of the Bonici, The Bands – The Two Red Shoes Story event on July 30, 2022, at Elgin Town Hall.

"Originally planned to take place on July 18, 2020, it was to celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of local promoter and impresario Albert Bonici, and 60th anniversary of opening of his club The Two Red Shoes, it was rescheduled due to the pandemic.

"However, due to the ongoing uncertainty and concerns over any further impact on the event from Covid-19, it has sadly been decided to cancel the event.

"The committee would like to thank those who have worked so hard to try and make this work."
