Elgin vigil to be held for victims of anti-transgender violence

A VIGIL set to take place in Elgin next week will commemorate victims of violence against transgender people.

As part of Transgender Day of Remembrance, Pride in Moray is holding a free event for the public to attend on Monday, November 20, at 6pm.

The vigil will follow Transgender Awareness Week celebrations which are currently ongoing.

David Harrison, chairman of Pride in Moray, said: “It’s an opportunity not just for the transgender community, but for the queer community to come together.

“It’s a chance to remember those who have been assaulted or sadly lost their lives due to their gender identity.”

This is the first year the group has organised the event, but they hope it will not be the last.

David continued: “We want to show Moray that we are not just here to organise the yearly pride parade. We want to continuously support the community to come together.”
