Paula Tatters was born in Ireland and went to a Gaelic-speaking school. At the age of 10, she was unable to read of write in English.

However, she has gone on to teach at Gordonstoun School, work as a Physical Training Instructor in the Women's Royal Air Force and has now written her very own book.

In recent years, Paula felt her memory beginning to fade. After noticing it start to improve, she was inspired to write a book entitled 'Seize The Moment' to recount stories from her past.

"My memory was so bad I thought I was getting dementia," she said. "But it came back and it's so good I thought I needed to put everything down on paper.

"My grandchildren helped me with the typing and were always saying 'come on granny, we are going to do it with you'.

"I was illiterate at 10, ended up teaching at Gordonstoun and having three careers, and now I've written a book."

Paula, who is the wife of Elgin City chairman Graham Tatters, has gone through a lot, including losing her son, another son going through chemotherapy and getting breast cancer.

The book details how she coped with everything. She added: "Most of these things I shared with my sister.

"I've had huge family support and various people trying to help me. I was never aware of the amazing support circles that are available."

The 80-page book itself has been available on Amazon since the end of October. It costs £5, and is only available online.

Paula thanked her friends Angela Curtis, who published the book, and Rose Turner, who – along with her grandchildren – pushed her to write the book.

A total of 30 books have been donated for use at Elgin City's Youth Programme.
