ENGINEERS from SSE worked throughout the day yesterday to restore electricity to almost 100 properties in Lossiemouth.

The properties – in the Spynie Canal area of Lossie – had electrical supply cut off after high winds forced two power lines to collide in the Hamilton Gardens area of Elgin.

This caused a fault further down the line which affected a total of 96 properties.

Engineers were on site at 8am on Wednesday, January 24, and restored power to all but seven of the affected properties by 5.30pm.

SSE said they were "aware of" a video that purported to show an 'explosion' on the overhead lines, but said this was a flashover caused by two lines being blown together.

A spokesperson added that there was no risk to members of the public or property as the lines hit each other.

It is also worth stressing that the fault itself occurred further down the network in Lossiemouth, and that is what our engineers were working on during the day.

A spokesperson from SSEN Distribution said: “We would like to thank our customers in Lossiemouth for their patience as our engineers worked hard to restore supplies following a fault on the local overhead network."
